Puppy Chow

Well, hubs and I are renting the seasons of Lost to get caught up on them before they start the new season. So, what better to eat when watching Lost than Puppy Chow. I've never made this but ate it alot growing up!

Puppy Chow
(source: my mom/probaby the back of the Chex box)
Ingredients:
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 cup peanut butter
1 stick butter
1 box Chex (I used half corn & half wheat (to tell myself it was a LITTLE healthier haha))
3 cups powdered sugar

Melt chocolate, peanut butter, and butter and pour over Chex. Mix together carefully and then add powdered sugar. Stir until everything is coated.

and here's a picture of Briley.. just for good measure since she's a puppy.. she wanted some REAL bad..

Roast Beef & Mashed Potatoes

Well, what's better than this meal? Growing up, my mom cooked these meals on a daily basis... not just for "Sunday dinner." So, I was in the mood for roast, yummy mashed potatoes, and gravy, mmm! My dad is doing some renovations on our house for us (lucky them I was making roast tonight!) So, my parents stayed for dinner. It was fun and the food was delish!

I fixed it how my mom always fixed it. I used about a 3 lbs. roast. I put it in a dish that left about 3-4 fingerwidths between the roast and the dish. I put the roast in the oven uncovered at 325 for about an hour and 45 min (or until the bottom juices look burnt). When they look burnt fill the dish with hot water about 1/2 to 3/4 up the roast (depending on how much gravy you want). Then put a lid on it and cook it for at least another hour and a half. The longer you cook it the more tender it gets.

When the time is up for the roast I take it out and put it on a platter. For the gravy, I just add a cornstarch/water mixture to thicken it. I just put it into the microwave to bring it to a boil again. Pretty darn easy if I do say so myself!

Onion Rings & Pork Steak

So, these were the best onion rings ever.. There is a local resturant that has served the most amazing onion rings for years. I have tried and tried to figure out the seasoning on them (the thing that makes them amazing) but have never been able to figure it out! Well, my mom found some connections (one of her friends had somehow gotten it from the resturant!) so therefore, I now have the secret ingredients. So, we made onion rings and got our fill!

Onion Ring Breading
(source: my head)
1 onion
4 eggs
enough milk to make it look right? (I don't know how much)
flour
Saltine cracker crumbs
salt
pepper

So, you cut up the onion into the fun little rings and put them into the egg/milk mixture. I used a baking sheet to put the breading ingredients on. Half of the baking sheet had plain flour and half had a cracker crumb/flour mixture (about equal parts). Salt and pepper the flour mixtures to taste. Take a ring and put into plain flour mixture. Put back into the egg/milk mixture. Then into the cracker mixture. Finally into the grease (heated to 350). Brown until they look yummy. Then sprinkle with this amazing salt.. mmmm..

Amazing Seasoned Salt
(source: friend)
This salt is amazing on pretty much anything and everything!

4 1/2 Tbs. Accent
1 Tbs. Salt
1 1/2 tsp. Paprika
3/4 tsp. White Pepper
3/4 tsp. Garlic Powder

So, we ate the onion rings as they came out and were completely full by the time the pork steak was done! But here it is anyway.. I used a BBQ dry rub on it and we broiled it in the oven (too cold to grill :( )

Marlowes BBQ Dry Rub
(source: foodtv.com) (I scaled it down MAJORLY though)

1 1/2 tsp. Paprika
3 tsp. Sugar
3 tsp. Garlic Powder
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1 1/2 tsp. Seasoned Salt
3/4 tsp. Chili Powder
3/4 tsp. Black Pepper
3/4 tsp. Black Magic (left this out also..it had 10 ingredients and I didn't feel like scaling them all down to a sprinkle.. but you can find them on the website)

So, this was our amazingly unhealthy dinner..

Grandma's Spaghetti

My husband refuses to eat any other spaghetti (I'm not even kidding, he will eat nothing with "black specks" or what everyone else calls herbs...). This recipe is his grandmothers, who served it at her resturant back in the day, and is his favorite food. It looks like it would be bland but it is really good! I haven't seen another spaghetti recipe like it. The salt, pepper, and dried onion provide all of the flavor. Make sure you use lean ground beef or it will be greasy. This recipe is so easy! Everyone should definately give it a try!

Grandma C's Spaghetti
(Source: Grandma)

Ingredients:

Sauce:
1 quart tomato juice
1 quart water
4 Tbs. sugar

Meatballs:
2-3 lbs. ground beef (I use 2 lbs.)
1/2 cup white rice
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 Tbs. dried onion

1 pkg. spaghetti

Directions:
Bring tomato juice and water to a rolling boil. Meanwhile, combine all ingredients for meatballs. Drop meatballs into liquid. Cook at a boil for 45 min. After 45 min. add the sugar. Cook one pkg. of spaghetti and add to sauce. Let stand 10 min. (it will thicken) Then eat!
